Insights | Introducing Smart Corridors for Simpler Payouts
At Onafriq, we are building the payments infrastructure designed for the realities of African markets. As our partners expand across markets, currencies and regulatory environments, we believe the system supporting this growth must remain simple at scale. Smart Corridors is a major step in that direction.
Real-time configurations without service disruption
Built on a configuration-driven model, Smart Corridors lets teams update compliance rules, adjust payment routes, set supported currencies per destination, and enable or disable payout types without redeployments or service disruption.
Every payout route is built from three pieces:
- Payout networks. The mobile network operators, banks, and cash-pickup partners that money moves through.
- Payment methods. The account type being paid into mobile wallet, bank account, or merchant wallet.
- Routing rules. The per-currency configuration that controls how payments are routed for a given payment method.
Compliance rules are set at the payout network and payment method level. Each corridor follows the rules specific to its payout type and regulatory environment. Updates to one corridor stay contained to that route which allows predictable end-to-end behaviour and cleaner evidence trails during audits.
Early Results
By consolidating payment processing into a single, standardised pipeline built for reliability, 91.9% of our partners saw measurable improvements in Q1 2026, with faster processing, smoother execution, and fewer duplicate transactions.
Smart Corridors lay the foundation for what comes next: smarter auto-routing, a visual interface for managing corridors, and broader payout coverage across markets.
